Europa by LiquidNerve Europa by LiquidNerve
Europa is one of my favorite worlds that reside within our solar system. Its vast oceans are frozen making this Jovian moon a bright celestial body as the ice reflects a lot of light. The small orb floating between Jupiter and Europa is another moon called Io.

Hmm, the angles are kinda throwing me off. Europa, Io and the rings are all pretty much on the same plane, so seeing Jupiter tilted like this is pretty disorienting. But that's a really small nitpick, and the orange glow of volcanism on Io is a nice touch.

There's a lot of cool planet/sky art out there, but this one is pretty neat in that it's quite plausible :)

Can I use this image in a YouTube video? It will be a static background image to one of my songs. A high-resolution version without the watermark would be preferable.

I will, of course, credit you as the artist and provide a link to your deviant art page (or another site if you prefer it.)

Thanks,
NEO (www.youtube.com/neweonorchestra)

What's interesting is that the cloud band that the Red Spot is part of has actually disappeared in the last 6 months. Just goes to show how dynamic and active these worlds can be.

Ironically, this is the only actual piece that shows the moon Europa that I found when I looked up "Europa" in the search bar. I don't even think any of the others had anything to do with Roman mythology.

But that's alright. The sheer amazing-ness of this awe-inspiringly beautiful image make up for devart's lack of other such pictures.

uncomprehendable beauty I always dream of being on the surface of different worlds and this one is one of my 3 favorites 1=Mars 2=Europa 3=Io. i find its surface to be beautiful with its reflective ice and subsurface ocean of liquid water. Not only is it pretty the potability of life in the oceans is fascinating,

I think that there is a small chance that the thin oxygen atmosphere may be the result of life producing oxygen in the underice ocean and some of it leaks to the surface. Life has shown the tendancy to exist in environments and places on earth that were previously thought to be inhospitable, so it's a possibility, however small.

Then again, I'm not a proffessional astrobiologist, so my theory may be completely misguided.

ANYWHOO, back on topic, this is a nice image; it almost looks like a photo. :meditation:

Correction to my last post: the oxygen is not of biological origin; according to research, the thin oxygen in the trace atmosphere is due to radiation splitting water vapor into hydrogen and oxygen. ^^;

Current evidence suggests that Europa has far greater potential for life than any other celestial body in the solar system not counting Earth. Surprisingly, it has an oxygen atmosphere but it's too thin for any human to breath. Tidal forces from Jupiter make it geologically active and prevent the under-ice liquid ocean from freezing up.
However, getting through to the ocean is going to be tricky. With an average surface temperature of -160 C at the equator and -220 C at the poles, the icy crust is about has hard as granite.

We know that it's a salt-water ocean but we don't know how high the salt content is. If the salt level is the same as brine, we can kiss our hopes of finding something alive goodbye. The Europian Space Agency had vested great interest in Europa in recent years and they're hoping to send out a landing probe within the next five years but it will take at least five years to get there. So far the Galileo probe is the only one that came close. It took some sweet photos but it's a far cry from an actual landing.

I quite like this sort of work from you, man, it's a nice change from the usual (and still just as amazing) stuff you produce. Beautiful use of tones here, you've created a landscape that is both interesting and calming to behold. Acually capturing tranquility in a picture is something that's really tough to do. Great work!
